Don't Miss the Abyss in London

Ever wondered what it's like in an abyss? Well then let the Natural History Museum's new exhibition, The Deep, take you 11,000 metres down to find out. Running from May to September, you will experience the four different zones of the ocean - which is full of alien creatures and dazzling lights.

Some of the specimens you might not have encountered before include certain rare species of jellyfish, mean-looking angler fish and scary-looking spider crabs - and at the centre of the exhibition don't be shocked to see the skeleton of a 250kg sperm whale. The largest of the toothed whales, they can actually grow to 18 metres in length - you can find him on display not far from a giant squid.

The ocean covers around two-thirds of our planet and yet we know relatively little about what goes on in the depths of these dark waters. Take a trip this summer to check out these unusual creatures and find out what lurks beneath the surface without getting your toes wet - it is the International Year of Biodiversity after all.
